Jung Yuno

Headcanons

During his formative years, Yuno lived in Connecticut, New England for 5 years as his father pursued his PhD in sports marketing. He went back to Seoul to continue elementary school studies soon after his father graduated. Most of the English slangs he uses on a daily basis are all thanks to the people he met during his stay in the US (plus Johnny and Mark and.. his online friends).

A year before being scouted by S.M. Entertainment, Yuno changed his legal name from Jung Jaehyun to Jung Yuno. His grandmother relayed that the name Jaehyun has no Hanja equivalent while Yuno does (making his Chinese name 鄭允午―Zheng Yunwu). Jaehyun was then used as Yuno's stage name because 1) Over more than a decade, everyone had been calling him as Jaehyun and it has become a part of his childhood, and 2) To disambiguate him from his senior of the same company, TVXQ's U-Know (Jung Yunho), whose stage name and legal name are pronounced as "yu-no" in Korean (note that 히읗 is pronounced silently when placed in between consonant and vocal letter).

Having been born in a family of academicians, Yuno is blessed with intelligence and wit like the rest of his family members. He was on track to becoming an architect when he was scouted by SM Entertainment in early 2010s, making it almost impossible for him to pursue higher education due to the commitment it brought to Yuno's life.
The influence of his elders who took path on creative arts eventually helped strengthen his decision to become an idol. He then took broadcasting major in high school, which then sparked his curiosity on marketing and business.

Yuno was an agnostic atheist after years of finding his own stance. He applies logic and reasons to every aspects of his life, including beliefs and religions. Despite being born within families upholding secular Christian views, this doesn't stop him from thinking for himself. Gladly enough, his parents support this and there is no pressure in following a religion (or believing in any supreme being for that matter) directed towards him. However, after more years dedicated to soul-searching, he is more comfortable in letting others know that he is agnostic theist, having practiced both modern and classic spiritualistic views.

Changing his name and settling to atheism were two of his earliest and biggest decisions made by himself. Of course, the latter part didn't come right away; rather, it was a gradual process taking up years until he came into a conclusion.

Having said that, he prefers to be called Yuno more than Jaehyun when he’s off-stage, especially by but not limited to the people who are close to him.

Due to his immense curiosity and being raised in an environment that does not shun him for having questions, he would never hesitate to learn something new, even when the subjects are deemed "sinful" for the society or even when he does not believe in the subject possessing so-called divine energy (divination and ancient religions, in his case).

Yuno believes in freedom for all human beings, in any aspect. Even though he believes that, somehow, this opinion would change depending on one's deeds and behaviour, he applies this to almost everything, universally. That being said, as much as he loves being the subject to one's possessive tendencies, he does not want to be completely chained down, especially in relationships. He values individuality more than anything else in the world, including his partner's.

Yuno is a switch-versatile. He tops and dominates most of the time, but would not hesitate to bottom and submit for someone else if said person gained his trust enough. Yuno does not get vulnerable often, although it has become much easier for him to assume a receiving position after becoming more comfortable under his own skin.

Yuno struggles to expose his vulnerable side even to someone he trusts, though at some points of his life it's almost impossible to resist the temptation to do so; resulting in him either spilling out the stories of his trauma or willingly submit to the other party. At times like this, he'd always leave the scene thinking he has done something deemed wrong for the society (ironic, yeah, after knowing how he applies reasoning to everything) and that he should brace himself for silent, menacing judgement. It took him years of building up courage to prevent any kind of communication to happen in between him and some of his relatives to break away from the shackles that is other's toxic opinions on how men should present themselves as.

At NCT 127's trip to Los Angeles in early 2018, Donghyuck was the one who bought a Golden Universal tarot deck, but Yuno is the one keeping it within his possessions, occasionally studying about it in his spare time. That being said, please don't be surprised when Yuno rambles about tarot or other divination methods.

Some of his members said he's good at lying and concealing things underneath his sleeves. He keeps a lot of things to himself, believing that he can spread positivity on others in order to ease negativity inside him. Look out for whatever you see from him; it might be something else entirely different from what it looks like.

Yuno is far-sighted and uses glasses on a daily basis once he's not in front of cameras.

Exhausted from preparing a big performance, you and Yuno (and the rest of the team) collectively decide to call it a day, but somehow both are too tired to even drag their arses outside the studio. The two stay still, and what started with playful banters becomes a perfect moment to reminisce the past: all the hardships both needed to endure to be where they are now, all the pain inflicted by others as they pave their own ways to stardom, all the tears shed for those who didn't deserve any.
